About the Leavitt Institute
The Leavitt Institute For International Development is a Charitable Organization of experienced professionals devoted to improving the rule of law in Ukraine.
Organized in 2005, the Leavitt Institute believes that experienced professionals who willingly contribute time and resources to advance the jury trial in Ukraine strengthen human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine.
The Leavitt Institute pursues logical, effective, and long term improvements to the advancement of the rule of law in Ukraine. Legal professionals devote time and resources without cost or remuneration. By so doing we develop the humanity within us and acquire a greater understanding of how to maintain the rule of law in our own nations.
Based in Utah, in the Western United States, The Leavitt Institute also has an office in in Kiev, Ukraine. The Board of Trustees is made up of judges, lawyers, academics, and charitable institution executives from across America who believe in the purpose and philosophy of the Leavitt Institute.
The Institute has partnership agreements with the Judicial Council of Ukraine -- a body controlled by the Supreme Court of Ukraine -- and with three universities in Kiev, Ukraine: The Academy of Advocates of Ukraine, Kyiv International Law University, and The Kyiv University of Law and Economics.
The Institute and the Judicial Council of Ukraine work together to sponsor and organize seminars and lecture series on legal reform in Ukraine with emphasis on the jury trial. With its university partners, the Institute teaches year long courses on the jury trial process in preparation for the Ukraine Jury Trial Competition, to take place in May, 2007.
The Leavitt Institute continues to expand its educational partnerships in Ukraine to further develop understanding of the jury trial. The University courses are taught by American legal professionals who travel to Ukraine for two week periods to teach.
If you are a legal professional and would be interested in volunteering two weeks of your time in Ukraine, please contact us.
